South Moravia had been waiting for a rebirth of its spas until the last decades of the 20th century when during prospecting for oil, Tertiary iodine-bromine water was found almost two kilometres below the surface. Besides, substantial geothermal sources of healing water, rich in hydrogen sulphide, were discovered. Their abundance enables the planning of spa development not only for the present, but also for future generations. However, springs of healing water are not the only sources of relaxation and health building in South Moravia.
The reservoir of strongly mineralised iodine-bromide water (the content of iodides is over 30 milligrams per litre and bromides up to 60 milligrams) was formed during the Tertiary folding at the time when Moravia was lifted from the bottom of a prehistoric sea. During the treatment iodine evaporates in the air, so the iodine microclimate even surpasses iodine concentration in seaside areas. You can fi nd all this in the area surrounded by the Pálava Hills full of slopes covered with vineyards and the Lednice-Valtice area – a vast park with a number of fairytale romantic buildings.
Two strong geothermal sources of healing sulphurous water were detected beneath the Pavlov Hills. Today many local facilities offer relaxation, active recreation and many experiences especially for the young and families with children.
The so-called brine is the most effective balneotherapeutic means to cure vascular diseases, musculoskeletal system diseases, neurological, gynaecological and skin diseases. Brine baths have also preventive, regenerative and rejuvenescent effects. The spa makes use of this quality not only in curative therapies, but also in relaxation procedures. A real feeling of wellness in the Slovácko region, which is rich in folklore, wine and hearty atmosphere.
Scientists still argue which nutrients present in wine are actually more benefi cial. Some medical research attributed the curative effects to resveratrol, one of many components of wine, which have a benefi cial effect on the cardiovascular system. Other papers cast doubt on them and pointed out that drinking local white wine has, besides other things, a more benefi cial effect on the content of HDL, the so-called “good cholesterol”. However, physicians agree on one thing: moderate drinking of wine has benefi cial effects on the human organism. This delicious drink has a positive infl uence on the heart and blood vessels, prolongs life and supports sexual functions.
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans already had the idea that grapes and wine were the keys to eternal youth. They used grapes for centuries to preserve health, youth and beauty. In the meantime, scientists proved that grapes and wine contain a number of various effective nutrients including vitamins, minerals, polyphenols and fruit acids which infl uence skin smoothness and effectively fi ght against signs of ageing. Wine does not have to be only drunk! Enjoy wine baths!
